If you want to winterize your pool. If you don't want your pool to turn into a green soup. If you want to find clear water in the spring – instead of algae slime.

October. The swimming season is over. Your pool will remain standing throughout the winter (6 months, November-April). Without a winter cover:

Problem #1: Dirt
Leaves fall into the water (autumn storms, bare trees). Twigs. Needles. Pollen (in spring). The result: In spring, your pool is full of organic material. You spend 2-3 days cleaning it (skimmering leaves, scrubbing the bottom, cleaning the filter) before you can even swim.

Problem #2: Algae
Sunlight + organic material (leaves) = perfect algae food . Without a cover, the pool will become overgrown over the winter. In spring: the pool is green. The walls are slimy. You need shock chlorination (expensive, time-consuming, and requires chemicals).

Problem #3: Evaporation
Even in winter, water evaporates (slower than in summer, but still). Six months without a cover equals a water loss of 500-1,000 liters. In spring, the water level is low. You have to refill it and readjust the pH level (work).

Problem #4: Frost damage
Rainwater collects in the pool (if it's too full) → freezes in winter → ice expands → can damage pipes/skimmer (expensive repairs in spring).

There is a solution. One that solves all four problems at once.

The WaluSeason pool winter cover – the opaque winter protection cover with integrated drainage mesh. Made in France. Walter Pool quality since 1992. Special features: Opaque (prevents algae growth), central mesh (rainwater drains away, leaves are filtered), three tensioning systems (FIX, SAND, WOOD – for every fastening situation).

What you will receive:

  • Opaque PVC double tarpaulin (680 g/m² – blocks 100% of sunlight = no algae growth)
  • Central drainage network (fine mesh in the middle – rainwater runs off, leaves remain on top)
  • UV protection (PVC lacquered, UV-resistant – lasts 5-10 years)
  • 3 clamping systems available (FIX, SAND, WOOD – depending on the fastening situation)
  • 8 colours available (Azure Blue, Night Blue, Swiss Green, Sand, Mocha, Light Grey, Anthracite Grey, Pearl Grey)
  • 35 cm overhang (over the entire circumference – secure fastening)
  • Custom-made (rectangular, L-shaped, with stairs – individually tailored to your pool)
  • For in-ground and above-ground pools (built-in pools, steel wall pools)

The result: October: Put on the winter cover (stretch it taut and secure it). March/April: Remove the winter cover → the pool is clean (hardly any leaves, no green algae, clear water). You can start immediately (turn on the filter system, check the pH level, swim) – instead of scrubbing for 3 days.

November. Autumn storm. 1,000 leaves fly through the garden. Without a winter cover: all the leaves end up in the pool (you'd have to scoop them out with a net now – but the season's over, the pool's cold, so you leave it). With WaluSeason: leaves fall onto the cover (staying on top, not in the water). In spring: remove the cover, sweep the leaves away with a broom – the pool is clean.

The 5 most important advantages at a glance:

  • Opaque PVC double tarpaulin 680 g/m² = no algae growth : 100% lightproof (no sunlight in the water = algae cannot grow), PVC double tarpaulin (robust, durable), open pool in spring = clear water (instead of green soup)
  • Central water drainage mesh = no waterlogging : Fine mesh in the middle of the cover (rainwater runs off into the pool or next to it), prevents water accumulation on the cover (no sagging, no risk of frost), filters leaves (large leaves stay on top, only water passes through)
  • UV protection + 5-10 year lifespan : PVC lacquered with UV protection (sun does not damage material), weather-resistant (rain, snow, frost – no problem), lasts 5-10 years (with proper storage in summer)
  • 3 tensioning systems (FIX, SAND, WOOD) = flexible fastening : FIX (Fix-Fit clamps + keder – for pools with coping stones), SAND (Cabiclic straps + eyelets – for sand edging/lawn), WOOD (Cabiclic straps + hooks – for wooden terraces), each system with stainless steel fastening (rustproof)
  • 35 cm overhang + custom-made = perfect cover : 35 cm overhang across the entire circumference (secure fastening, even in windy conditions), custom-made for your pool (rectangular, L-shaped, with steps/ladder cutouts), fits perfectly (no gaps, no sagging)

Who is this winter cover ideally suited for?

Reality check : The WaluSeason pool winter cover is for all pool owners (built-in pools, steel wall pools) who want to protect their pool over the winter – and want to start immediately in the spring (without a 3-day cleaning marathon).

✓ People with built-in pools (who do not drain the pool over the winter)
In-ground pools (8 x 4m, tiled, recessed) remain filled over the winter (draining would damage the pool – groundwater pressure). Without a winter cover: the pool becomes a dirty corner for over 6 months (leaves, algae, frost). With WaluSeason: the pool is protected → spring: remove the cover, the pool is clean.

✓ People with steel-walled pools (who leave the pool standing over the winter)
Steel-walled pools (Ø 4.5m, above ground) can remain in place over winter (partially filled, add antifreeze). Without a winter cover: leaves will fall in, algae will grow (slowly even at low temperatures). With WaluSeason: the pool is covered → protected.

✓ People with trees by the pool (leaf problem)
Your pool is located under/next to trees (oak, beech, birch). Autumn: Thousands of leaves fall. Without a winter cover: All the leaves end up in the pool → in spring, you spend 2-3 days raking leaves and scrubbing the bottom (work). With WaluSeason: Leaves fall onto the cover → in spring, remove the cover, sweep away the leaves → the pool is clean.

✓ People who hate algae (green water = nightmare)
They hate algae. Spring without a winter cover: Open the pool → green water, slippery walls → shock chlorination required (lots of chlorine, expensive, wait 2-3 days) → scrub the bottom → clean the filter. With WaluSeason (opaque): No sunlight in the water → algae cannot grow → Spring: Pool is clear.

✓ People who want to save time (swim immediately instead of scrubbing for 3 days)
Spring without a winter cover: Open the pool → 3 days of work (skimming leaves, scrubbing algae, shock chlorination, adjusting pH, cleaning the filter) → then swim. With WaluSeason: Open the pool → remove the cover → the pool is clean → turn on the filter system → check the pH → swim immediately (saves 2-3 days of work).

✓ People with different fastening situations (curbstones, lawn, wooden terrace)
Every pool is different. The fastening method depends on the pool's surroundings: coping stones (FIX system), grass/sand (SAND system), wooden decking (WOOD system). WaluSeason offers 3 tensioning systems → you choose the right system for your situation.

✓ People who appreciate aesthetics (8 colors available)
Standard winter tarpaulins: Blue. Or: Blue. Boring. WaluSeason: 8 colors (Azure Blue, Midnight Blue, Swiss Green, Sand, Mocha, Light Gray, Anthracite Gray, Pearl Gray). Choose a color to match your garden/terrace (harmonious integration).

✓ People with custom pools (L-shaped, with steps, overflow channel)
Your pool is n't a standard rectangle (8 x 4m). It's L-shaped. Or: with integrated steps. Or: with an overflow channel. Standard winter covers won't fit. WaluSeason: Custom-made (individually tailored to your pool – cutouts for steps/ladders are possible).

✓ People in regions with a lot of snow (Alps, Black Forest)
Heavy snowfall in winter (30-50 cm). Standard tarpaulins: Too thin (snow forces the tarpaulin into the water, causing it to tear). WaluSeason: 680 g/m² double-layered PVC tarpaulin (robust, supports snow) + central mesh (allows meltwater to run off).

Product description: When opacity meets drainage

The concept: Opaque tarpaulin + drainage mesh = perfect winter solution

Winter tarpaulins must fulfill two tasks :

Task #1: Protect the pool from dirt (keep leaves, twigs, pollen out)
Task #2: Prevent algae growth (no sunlight in the water)

The problem: rainwater. Winter = lots of rain/snow. Water collects on the cover → cover sags (weight of the water) → cover touches water in the pool → gets dirty → difficult to clean.

The solution: WaluSeason with a central water drainage network

Opaque double PVC tarpaulin (680 g/m²) over the entire surface → stops sunlight (100% lightproof) + protects against dirt.

Plus: Central fine mesh (in the middle of the tarpaulin, approx. 20-30% of the area) → allows rainwater to pass through (run off), keeps leaves back (too large for net mesh).

The result: If it rains in winter → water collects on the tarp → flows to the center (slight slope) → runs off through the net (into the pool or next to it, depending on how it's attached) → tarp remains dry/light (no sagging, no strain).

Plus: Leaves fall onto the tarp → stay on top (too big for the net) → in spring: remove the tarp, sweep the leaves away with a broom → easy.

Opaque PVC double tarpaulin 680 g/m² – Stops algae growth

Material: PVC double tarpaulin (two PVC layers bonded together).

Material thickness: 680 g/m² (heavy, robust).

Characteristics:

  • 100% opaque (no sunlight penetrates the tarpaulin)
  • PVC lacquered (smooth surface, water-repellent)
  • UV protection (UV radiation does not damage the material)
  • Weatherproof (rain, snow, frost, heat – no problem)

Why opaque is important:

Algae need sunlight to grow. Without light → no photosynthesis → algae die/do not grow.

With a transparent cover (e.g., solar film): sunlight penetrates the water → algae continue to grow (slower than in summer, but still).

With WaluSeason (opaque): No sunlight enters the water → algae cannot grow → pool remains clear over winter .

Practical tip: In spring, remove the cover → water is clear (maybe slightly cloudy, but not green ) → turn on the filter system → swim after 1-2 days (instead of shock chlorination + wait 3 days).

Central drainage system – No waterlogging

The problem without drainage:

A winter cover is on the pool. It rains (November-April, high rainfall). Water collects on the cover (forming a "puddle" in the middle) → the cover sags (due to weight) → touches the pool water → gets dirty.

In heavy rain/snow: The tarpaulin may tear (too much weight) or slip into the water (fastening gives way).

The solution: Central network

Fine mesh (approx. 20-30% of the tarpaulin area, in the middle) with small mesh sizes (approx. 2-3 mm).

How does that work?

Rain falls on the tarp → water flows towards the center (slight slope due to fastening) → runs through the net → collects under the tarp (in the pool or next to it, depending on the setup).

Advantage #1: The tarpaulin stays dry/light (no sagging, no strain).

Advantage #2: Leaves are filtered (large leaves don't fit through the net → stay on top → easy to remove in spring).

Advantage #3: No risk of frost damage (frozen water on the tarpaulin would damage the tarpaulin – with the net, water runs off before it freezes).

Important: The net only lets water through (no leaves, no dirt larger than 2-3 mm). Pool stays clean.

UV protection + 5-10 year lifespan

UV radiation (sunlight) is the main cause of material aging .

Without UV protection: PVC becomes brittle (UV radiation destroys the molecular structure) → the tarpaulin becomes fragile → cracks develop → lifespan: 2-3 years.

With UV protection (WaluSeason): PVC is coated with UV protection agent → UV radiation is reflected/absorbed (material ages more slowly) → Lifespan: 5-10 years (with proper storage in summer).

Practical advice: Summer: Store the cover in a dry place (cellar, garage, protected from direct sunlight). Winter: Store the cover outdoors (UV radiation is weaker in winter, less damage). 10 winters = 10 years of use possible.

3 clamping systems: FIX, SAND, WOOD – For every fastening situation

The mounting method depends on your pool environment. Every pool is different.

FIX system (for pools with coping stones):

Tensioning system: Fix-Fit clamps + circumferential keder (plastic keder, sewn into the tarpaulin)

How does that work?
The keder (plastic bead) is clipped into Fix-Fit clamps (clamps are mounted on kerbstones) → tarpaulin is taut → securely fastened.

Mounting system: Retractable stainless steel pin (recessed into the ground, pull out when needed) or fixed stainless steel pin (permanently in the ground)

Suitable for: Built-in pools with coping stones (concrete coping stones, natural stone coping stones)

SAND system (for sand edging/lawn):

Tensioning system: Cabiclic straps (elastic tensioning straps) + brass eyelets (embedded in the tarpaulin)

How does that work?
Thread Cabiclic straps through brass eyelets → attach to stainless steel pins (embedded in the ground) → elastic straps keep the tarpaulin taut → secure even in windy conditions.

Fastening system: Extendable stainless steel pin or fixed stainless steel pin

Suitable for: Pools with sand surround (no coping stones), lawn surround, pebble surround

WOOD system (for wooden terraces):

Tensioning system: Cabiclic straps + brass eyelets (like the SAND system)

Fastening system: Stainless steel hooks (screwed into the wooden terrace)

How does that work?
Screw stainless steel hooks into the wooden terrace (around the pool) → Hang Cabiclic straps on the hooks → The tarp is attached.

Suitable for: Pools with wooden terraces (wooden decking around the pool)

Which system should you choose?

Does your pool have coping stones (concrete, natural stone)? → FIX system
Does your pool have a sand/grass/pebble border (no coping stones)? → SAND system
Does your pool have a wooden terrace (wooden deck around the pool)? → WOOD system

All systems use stainless steel (rustproof, durable, also suitable for saltwater pools).

8 colours – Opaque for perfect algae protection

The WaluSeason winter cover is available in 8 colours (all opaque, 100% lightproof):

Shades of blue:

  • Azure blue (light, classic, matches pool water color)
  • Midnight blue (dark, modern, elegant)

Shades of green:

  • Swiss Green (medium green, natural, suitable for lawn/garden)

Neutral tones:

  • Sand (beige, warm, Mediterranean)
  • Mocha (brown, earthy, natural)
  • Light grey (bright, modern, minimalist)
  • Anthracite grey (dark, elegant, timeless)
  • Pearl grey (medium grey, neutral, universal)

All colors are opaque → 100% light impermeability → same algae protection (regardless of color).

Choose according to:

  • Garden color (e.g. Swiss green goes well with lawn)
  • Terrace color (e.g. mocha goes well with a wooden terrace)
  • House color (e.g., anthracite grey suits a modern house)

35 cm overhang – Secure fastening

Overhang: 35 cm across the entire circumference (the tarpaulin is larger than the pool's internal dimensions).

Why overhang is important:

Without overhang (tarpaulin exactly the size of the pool): Tarpaulin lies directly on the water → difficult to secure → slips into the water in the wind.

With a 35 cm overhang: The tarpaulin lies on the pool edge and extends 35 cm beyond the pool edge → enough material for fastening (tensioning systems grip the overhang) → secure, even in storms .

Practical: For an 8 x 4m pool (internal dimensions) → winter cover is 8.7 x 4.7m (+ 35 cm per side) → lies on the pool edge → is attached to the overhang.

Custom-made – For rectangular and individual pools

The WaluSeason winter cover is custom-made (not a standard size).

After ordering:

  • You specify the dimensions (length x width of your pool – internal dimensions)
  • Plus: Special features (integrated staircase? permanently mounted ladder? L-shape?)
  • Walter Pool manufactures tarpaulins exactly to your dimensions (+ 35 cm overhang)
  • A cover is included (fits your pool perfectly)

Compatible with:

  • Rectangular pools (standard – 6 x 3m, 8 x 4m, 10 x 5m, others)
  • L-shaped pools (two rectangular areas combined)
  • Pools with steps (cutout for steps possible – rectangular or round)
  • Pools with ladder (cutout for ladder possible)
  • Round pools (on request – round winter cover available)

Important: Measure precisely (inside dimensions of the pool – from wall to wall). The manufacturer automatically adds a 35 cm overhang.

Important: Custom-made = no returns/exchanges possible (as with all custom products).

Why people choose the WaluSeason winter cover

"Before: Pool opened in spring → green water, 3 days of shock chlorination + scrubbing. With WaluSeason (opaque): Pool opened → water is clear. I save 3 days of work + €50 on chemicals."
– Mr. K., 52 years old, hates algae

"My pool is under oak trees (lots of leaves in autumn). With a winter cover: the leaves stay on top (fall onto the cover, not into the water). In spring: remove the cover, sweep away the leaves – the pool is clean. Brilliant."
– Mrs. M., 48 years old, trees by the pool

"The central net is practical. Rain in winter → water runs through the net → tarpaulin stays dry (no sagging, no strain). We used to have a tarpaulin without a net – it always sagged, we had to pump out the water."
– Mr. S., 60 years old, lots of rain in winter

"The anthracite grey tarpaulin matches my dark natural stone terrace perfectly. It looks like part of the terrace – not like a makeshift covering. Guests always ask: Where did you get that?"
– Ms. L., 55 years old, Visual Minimalist

"The WOOD system (hooks in the wooden deck) works perfectly. Installation: 30 minutes (screw in the hooks, attach the straps – done). The tarpaulin is taut and secure, even in storms. Very practical."
– Mr. T., 58 years old, wooden terrace by the pool

"The tarpaulin has now lasted 8 years (still intact, no tears). The UV protection really works. I store it in the cellar in summer (dry, dark) – that's why it has such a long lifespan."
– Couple, long-term users

Frequently Asked Questions – Honest Answers

Q: Does WaluSeason really prevent algae growth (completely)?
A: Yes (99%). The cover is 100% opaque (no sunlight reaches the water). Without light, algae cannot grow. However: If the pool already had algae in the fall (green water) → the cover will stop further growth, but it won't kill all existing algae. Recommendation: Shock the pool in the fall (kill the algae) → then put the winter cover on.

Q: What happens to rainwater (does it run into the pool or next to it)?
A: Depends on the fastening method. The central net allows water to pass through. Option 1: Water runs into the pool (cover lies directly on the water, net is below the water level) → Pool level rises slightly (drain in spring). Option 2: Water runs alongside (cover is stretched taut over the pool, net is above the water level) → Water runs beside the pool (lawn/drainage). Adjust by changing the tension.

Q: Can the tarpaulin withstand snow (heavy snow loads)?
A: Yes (680 g/m² = robust). Normal snow loads (10-30 cm snow) = no problem. Very heavy loads (50+ cm snow, Alps): Sweep the snow off regularly (every 2-3 days) → prevents overloading. Snowmelt water drains away through a central network (no blockage).

Q: Which clamping system should I choose (FIX, SAND, WOOD)?
A: Depends on the pool environment. FIX: Pool has coping stones (concrete/natural stone) → Fix-Fit clamps. SAND: Pool has sand/grass/pebble surround (no coping stones) → Cabiclic strips + stainless steel pins in the ground. WOOD: Pool has a wooden deck → Cabiclic strips + stainless steel hooks in the wood. Unsure? → Email us with a photo – we'll advise you.

Q: Can I also use a winter cover in the summer (as a summer cover)?
A: Not recommended. A winter cover is opaque (no sunlight gets through) → the pool won't heat up (on the contrary: it stays cool). For summer: use a solar cover (transparent, heats the pool). Use a winter cover only from November to April .

Q: How do I store a winter tarpaulin in the summer (May-October)?
A: Important for lifespan: Store the tarpaulin in a dry place (cellar, garage, shed) and protect it from direct sunlight (UV radiation ages the material even when stored). Do not store it folded (creases are stress points). Better: Roll it up loosely and lay it flat.

Q: Does a winter cover also fit round pools?
A: Yes (upon request). WaluSeason can be manufactured in a round shape (for round steel-walled pools, round in-ground pools). Standard offer: Rectangular. For a round shape: Email us with the diameter specification.

Q: What do I do with leaves on the tarpaulin (over winter)?
A: Option 1: Remove regularly (sweep away every 2-3 weeks) → keeps the tarp clean and light. Option 2: Leave them → remove them all at once in spring (take off the tarp, sweep away the leaves). Important: Do not let leaves rot on the tarp (over several years) → they can discolor the tarp (brown stains).

Q: Do I need chemicals in the pool over the winter (despite the winter cover)?
A: Recommended (but less so than without a cover). Autumn: Shock the pool (kill algae) → Put on a winter cover → Winter: Add antifreeze if necessary (if the pool is in a frost-prone area) + adjust the pH level. With a winter cover: Fewer chemicals are needed (no algae growth, less dirt).

Q: Can I put on the winter cover myself (or do I need help)?
A: It depends on the pool size. Small pools (<30 m²): 1 person is sufficient (unroll the cover, secure it). Large pools (>30 m²): 2 people recommended (one on each side → unroll together + stretch taut → secure). Wind: In strong winds, always use two people (otherwise the cover will blow away).
